Ashtray Blog: An Electronic Cigarette Blog

Electronic Cigarette Spot

A great site I ran across recently was E Cigarette Spot.

The post that actually introduced me to the blog referenced our battle with ASH US.

It did a great summary of our conflicting press releases (including some of our more embarrassing mistakes – tobacco specific nitrogens instead of tobacco specific nitrosamines – wince!).

And it also indulged in a a bit of Banzhaf bashing, and if there was ever a billionaire who deserves a bit of bashing it’s Banzhaf.

After I pointed the post out to Smokles, they referenced it, which made me wonder why I hadn’t.

In fact, the whole blog is in fact worth a read – it’s intelligent, well written and does a good job of deflating some of the myths around smoking and electronic cigarettes.

So check it out

I'm so glad you guys liked the site. It's still very much a baby, but getting there. When I saw your battle with Banzhaf I just had to stop and comment, it's a great example of his spin machine in action. Keep up the good work!

I noticed your mention of Banzhaf … and had to relay this little tidbit of info that I knew you and your readers would get a chuckle out of. :)

A short while ago, I noticed that a link to one of my articles was prominently and proudly displayed on the ASH main page, to the right, in their news sidebar.

I couldn't believe they had linked to it and nearly died laughing, as did many others in the forum I visit. Take a look at the article and you'll see what I mean.

I assume they didn't notice what the article actually contained until a couple of hours later and then promptly cut their ties to me.

Personally, I believe it is a perfect example of how much attention they pay to the world around them though and accurately portrays the enormity of the ego behind the voice.

Oh dear, what donkeys! Next time take a screenshot of their page.

More seriously, ASH US sicken me. Their intrusions into people's lives, their junk science, their lies – to me they embody all of what is wrong with modern society.

E-Cig-Guy – you are doing a great job with your site so far!

    /me laughs!!!

ASH did the same to me. I was wondering why suddenly there was traffic from ASH. They linked to one of the mentions of themselves, but I guess didn't take the time to read the whole thing.

Their whole deal is just to pat themselves on the back for any mention. It's funny, but seems to work for them.

    Johnny B's Recipe for PR
    Write a press release
Write a press release announcing you wrote a press release
write a press release announcing anyone who mentioned your press release
Take credit for everything that happens and post a press release referencing the press release where you take credit.

Rinse and repeat as necessary until everyone believes you are an expert.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

You have it so right when it comes to their press releases. He's supposed to be a billionaire – surely he can afford a decent copywriter.

Check out smokles http://smokles.wordpress.com/2009/12/03/anybody-up-for-a-class-action-suit-against-banzhaf/ for more complaint about Banzhaf's press releases. Which reminds me I have a blog post to finish off about that…
