The lovely people from the Welsh National Opera have sent us this translation from their opera Carmen (and we had to add their picture again of Fiona Harrison smoking an electronic cigarette!) More pictures here: Welsh National Opera Turns to Electronic Cigarette.) Thanks also to Simon Rees for doing the translation.

The bell has rung, and we’re watching out
for the working women to come back.
We’ll follow you dark-haired cigarette girls
and whisper you words of love.
Look at them.
Impudent looks, flirtatious ways.
Each smoking a cigarette.
We watch the smoke
as it rises fragrant into the sky.
As it goes sweetly to your head
and gently fills you with joy.
The sweet words of lovers,
their ecstasies and vows of love -
are nothing but smoke.
