Thanks for the comment, Nolan. The consensus amongst most scientists we have spoken to (see our interviews here: http://www.ecigarettedirect.co.uk/interviews/electronic-cigarette-interviews.html) is that they are almost certainly a LOT safer than cigarettes.

From what I’ve read it looks like almost all of the harm comes from combustion. The irony seems to be that the carcinogens present in tobacco smoke aren’t what is actually causing cancer.

The primary evidence for this is that Swedish Snus contains between 2-3 times the level of Tobacco Specific Nitrosamines (TSNAs – the carcinogens found in e-cig juice) so should cause 2-3 times the amount of cancer. But they don’t. They are in fact 95-99% safer than smoking tobacco.

E-cigs should be safer than that again, but we will need to wait another 20-30 years before we can know for certain.

No, smoking is the number one cause of lung disease, with most of the harm caused by combustion.
