The E-Cigarette: three Reasons not to use It

The Mini-Cigarette - a electronic cigarette that can be used as an aid for quitting smoking.

There is a dastardly new device about, and it is called the Electronic Cigarette. With news of this device spreading across the net, and lauded in the press, something must be done to stop it. In this article we list the reasons why you, as an honest to God smoker, should not be smoking an electronic cigarette.

1. The Electronic Cigarette is unhealthy.

The Electronic Cigarette contains nicotine, and this is unhealthy. Of course, it doesn’t contain any tar or tobacco, nor does it contain any of the 4000 chemicals found in cigarettes. Unlike cigarettes, it doesn’t contain formaldehyde, used to preserve dead bodies or benzene, which is used in petrol and is associated with leukemia. It doesn’t contain ammonia, which is used to make cleaning fluid, or the rat poison arsenic. It doesn’t doesn’t even contain hydrogen cyanide, used in gas chambers or have any of the tar that exists in cigarette smoke, 70% of which is deposited in people’s lungs. But you can’t say it is healthy, only that it is healthier.

2. Extra privileges.

Smokers are now using these devices to get round bans of smoking in public places. Now, I know that all health risks to passive smokers has been removed with the e-cigarette, but frankly, I enjoy seeing smokers suffering in the cold, huddled together in the rain or stuck like rats in a trap in a smoky smoker’s area. And I have no desire to see the pain of heavy smokers on long haul flights alleviated.

3. Tax Revenue.

Let’s face it, the government make a fortune on tax from tobacco. There is less tax from the electronic cigarettes, which also makes it annoyingly cheaper than ‘real’ smoking. If smokers pay less tax, more money will have to come from somewhere, and I don’t see why I should pay more tax just because smokers are no longer shouldering an unfair share of the burden.

Finally. remember, there’s no smoke without fire. Well, there’s no smoke at all actually, just vapour, but still, to all those smokers using to help them give up, or to circumvent smoking bans I say - bah, humbug, and let it be banned.
