Electronic Cigarette and Smoking Cessation

In this extract from our interview with Carl Phillips we discussed whether the electronic cigarette could aid smoking cessation and/or tobacco harm reduction.

While there have been no long term studies into smoking cessation, initial studies into the electronic cigarette suggest that the electronic cigarette can both relieve nicotine cravings and raise the level of nicotine in the blood. Our own survey suggested that many smokers who had tried and failed to quit smoking could at the very least use it to replace cigarettes.

Carl Phillips was positive about the potential of the electronic cigarette in this area, stating that the electronic cigarette was already being used in this way by tens of thousands of smokers.
