Would you buy e-cigarettes on the black market? User comments

If electronic cigarettes were banned OR became unavailable for a period of time OR became extremely difficult to obtain, would you return to only smoking cigarettes?

  1. Due to imbalances in neurotransmitters, my brain requires an adequate source of nicotine to maintin normal mood and cognitive function, also nicotine prevents the build-up of Lewy Bodies in the brain.
  2. Because I feel I have the right to use what I want in MY OWN BODY and not go back to the cigs that has 4000+ other chemicals
  3. Electronic cigarettes are much safer, cleaner & healthier than 'analogue' cigarettes
  4. Because I enjoy them and don't see why I should stop.
  5. I have the computer and the internet and I have linked up with other users to in forums and chat rooms I feel I understand the issues on the subject of e-cigarettes and I feel these have saved my 70 year old fathers life he is feeling much better and I think he'll be around much longer now that he has also quit. The idea of banning is just plain wrong. Where in the law does it say the tobacco companies should be protected from new technology putting them out of business ? Nowhere does it say that these are like vaccination against smoking it will save more lives than the MSR vaccine and allowing the continued sale of electronic cigarettes will be the biggest public health decision made in the last 50 years.
  6. The slim chance of being caught, slim chance of being punished and the modest nature of that punishment is not comparable to the alternative (a highly likely relapse into years of cigarette smoking. Various regulators seem to view e-cigs as innately dangerous and await proof they are safe. To me, they look safe in theory and I await evidence they are significantly unsafe. If regulators can give a reason for banning them aside from being almost hysterically risk-averse, I might comply.
  7. Cigarette smoking is unsafe for sure. I'm sticking with what I know works and I won't give up my quit status, so would gladly purchase black market.
  8. they keep me away from cigs
  9. Because I sincerely believe that this would be a far better option than smoking tobacco. If our legislators are sincere in their motives to reduce the harm caused by tobacco, restrictions placed on e-cigs must be considered VERY carefully or they will actively cause yet more harm. They would also be playing straight into the hands of the organised criminals who would be utterly delighted to find another black market opening up and undo all the good work that has been done to date by responsible suppliers.
  10. After having found this wonderful alternative there is no way I am going back to smoking cigarettes.
  11. because i will die if i smoke reg. ones. my dr. says if i cant quit i should stay with e-cigs because they are better for me
  12. Simply eliminating the thousands of toxins created by the combustion of tobacco and the chemicals in tobacco, vaping has got to be worlds safer. Existing research and comments from public health physicians could indicate that vaping is measurable safer than smoking.
  13. Because I believe that the risk of running afoul of the law is a lesser risk than continuing to smoke conventional cigarettes
  14. If they are banned, it would not be because they are bad for you, it would be because big tobacco paid a lot of money to lobbyists to get them banned.
  15. Because they work for me and I do not want to go back to cigarettes. Any restrictive legislation, I feel, is more to do with lobby group power rather than substance
  16. If the black market was the only way to get ecigs I would still buy them. The law is ridiculous, rather than serving the public it's all about supporting private profit.
  17. Electronic cigarettes have been a LIFE SAVER for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    healthier than normal
  18. They are the only product that has worked to quit tobacco
  19. I believe that I have the right to make my own consumer choices. I can do my own research to decide whether or not I would like to ingest something. It is not the place of Government to tell me what I can or cannot do, as long as I am not harming anyone else.
  20. After 50 years (from age 15 to 65, a conservative estimate) of addiction to smoking tobacco, I dread weakening again. E-cigs are the ONLY escape from tobacco that I have ever found.
  21. I believe any ban on these products would be wholly based on politics and financial issues, and NOT due to any real or imagined health issues. I would have no moral issue in buying from the black market.
  22. There are a lot of idiots who try to make decisions for us and their decisions are sometimes not in my best interest
  23. These are not harmful products. Period. Even FDA tests show they have little to nothing in harmful chemicals contained within. Might as well ban coffee while you're at it.
  24. Given an almost certainly far healthier option, I'm willing to break a stupid law. It affects nobody but me.
  25. I feel this way because I strongly believe that electronic cigarettes are a better alternative to smoking for me.
  26. Because I don't want tobacco cigarettes and all the "killer" additives
  27. I do not feel bound by laws, if the government conducts itself in murderous ways...
  28. They're keeping me off regular cigarettes!
  29. If I was able to source electronic cigarette supplies from elsewhere I would. There really should be a maybe option here... I am likely to try, at least for a while. I have personally SEEN the improvements in my overall health and well-being, having gone more than 9 weeks on ecigs alone, but have temporarily had to return to cigarettes when I was unable to resupply. I am now stocked again and returning to e-cigs.
  30. Because I won't have anyone dictate to me that it's better to smoke real cigarettes or nothing at all. I found this incredible life saving device and for political/money reasons the gov is trying to ban it...no proof that it is harmful, just ignorant arguments against it by people and groups with ulterior motives.
  31. The government can't stop the flow of e-cigs. They cant even stop illegal aliens, meth, heroin or weapons. I'll be the one dealing e-cigs on the black market!
  32. What I've learned in the last year that I've been vaping has left me trusting the black market about as much as I trust the FDA ... in fact, I'd rather take my chances with the black market.
  33. As a typical American teenager in the 1970s, I was quite familiar with illicit substances and always managed to procure them. I don't see any reason why I would not be able to continue vaping nicotine, ban or not.
  34. My body, my decision to obtain however...
  35. My physical well-being is more important than a law that would go against our health.
  36. I value my human right to make my own choices.
  37. I refuse to go back to cigarettes and I am not ready to quit nicotine all together.
  38. These devices are at minimum a miniaturized version of the vaporizers one can buy at any pharmacy or Wal-Mart, and at most a revolutionary approach to tobacco harm reduction. There is no evidence that they are anywhere near as harmful as smoking tobacco, and in fact noted physicians such as Dr. Michael Siegel and Dr. Joel Nitzkin have come out in favor of them.
  39. I am an otherwise law abiding citizen but, knowing that I feel so much better by using an e-cig, the black market would be a risk I would be willing to take.
  40. I feel that the govt has no right simply by the stroke of a pen to label ecigs a drug or a device and thereby determine my right (or not) to use this. Ecigs will likely save many lives by avoiding the morbidity associated with tobacco smoking. I resent any government intrusion into my private life and activities, and/or countering my best judgement. They do not know what's best for me or other citizens. I employ them, not vice versa, and they will NOT dictate to me in a detrimental manner.
  41. I wish to keep using electronic cigarettes any which way I can.
  42. They do no one any harm and have given me the chance of a longer life...I have COPD
  43. It would depend on how accessible they were and the quality of the e-liquid.
They are a lifeline to me. I cannot smoke any more due to health reasons, but I still want to. With e-cigs, my cravings are satisfied, I can avoid the horrible damage analogs were doing to my lungs, and I can breathe again! I will never smoke again, unless it becomes completely impossible to obtain e-cigs. Then I might as well just shoot myself, because the analogs hurt my lungs so badly that I can't even function and I am sick all the time. But I enjoy the act of smoking or vaping so much that I won't give it up completely!
  44. because there helping me to stop smoking and helping me to breath better
  45. It would keep me away from tobacco.
  46. Electronic cigarettes have dramatically improved the way I feel. My sense of taste has improved, I can smell again and I no longer stink of cigarette smoke. If I was forced to resort to buying e-cigs on the black market and I believed I could do so without getting caught, I would do so without a moments hesitation.
  47. Because I feel better using them than I did traditional tobacco cigarettes, I feel they are safer, and the only reason the government, tobacco, and pharmaceuticals want them banned is THEIR loss of income. They have shown me they do not care about the public's health only money, so I will take care of myself.
  48. Electronic cigarettes saved my life. They will only be made illegal to please the pharmaceutical companies.
  49. It's ridiculous that electronic cigarettes are lumped into the same category as heroin or cocaine. Banned? Illegal? What a joke. Nicotine isn't any more harmful than caffeine. It's the delivery. Plus... I do not subscribe to the Public Health Organizations propaganda anymore. I have no trust or faith in anyone who tells me what I should do in this "free" country while it is apparent where their money comes from.
  50. Because going back to real cigs is NOT an option
  51. Yes, most definitely. It would be preferable to going back to smoking, which would be my only choice since I've tried everything else and nothing other than e-cigs have worked to keep me from smoking.
  52. I refuse to let the Gov. make me kill myself my being forced to go back to real cigs.
I feel eCigs are a lot healthier for me than smoking and as such would get them on the black market if I had not other options. I will not sacrifice my health because of some stupid governement policy.
  53. see previous comment - but mostly I deeply resent all that tax and it really would be the last straw in the lets persecute the smokers campaign
  54. because I am fed up with the goddamn goverment telling us what we can do, they will soon be telling us when to breath in and out.
  55. I cannot image life without the oppurtuinity to enjoy a smoke from time to time.
I know I am healthier, wealthier, and happier, with them .
    That is why
  56. to help myself to smoke less
  57. Don't want to be doing anything illegal
  58. if ecigs were banned completly im sure there would some sort of bigger ban for ordinary smokers, plus buying on the black market isnt making you better than the system, just lowering yourself to there standards
  59. too dificult
  60. can't think of any good reason they would be made illegal.
  61. simply because smoking has been made so uncomfortable for the smoker and theEcig complies with social requirements such as clean air etc
  62. They are safer than smoking tobacco
  63. Because I do not feel under any compunction to obey laws which are intrusive and aimed at curtailing the liberties of the iondividuual.
  64. cigarettes are the biggest legal killer on the market, so why haven't they been banned?
  65. because they bring huge revenues to goverments, who lets face it don't want any of us to give up we'll live longer won't we!?
  66. I would not trust anything bought on the black market to be what it said it was!
