Getting Started With E-Cigarettes

You must be over 18 to purchase products from ECigaretteDirect

Search for electronic cigarette starter kits, and you’ll soon see a plethora of choices – and advice. You may also get confused by terminology – vaping, e-liquid, atomisers, wads (check out our glossary to see an explanation of all these terms.) You head can soon be buzzing – and not from a nicotine hit.

The real problem is what suits some people may not suit you. What you should choose (and who you should buy it from) really depends on your experience – and how you want to use it.

In this section you’ll find a brief introduction to the different types of electronic cigarettes available. For a more comprehensive introduction, view The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Electronic Cigarettes.

Cigalikes

This device is known as a cigalike for obvious reasons – it looks like a cigarette.

You don’t need any specialist knowledge to get started as cigalikes, including our Cigalike E-Cig Starter Kit range, simply entail screwing in a cartridge into a battery and inhaling. These models are known as cartomisers, as the atomisers (the bit which vaporises the nicotine) are contained within the cartridge. And unless you take the cartridge apart, you will never actually see them!

Tank Systems

Tank systems are the perfect introduction to refillable electronic cigarettes. With a tank system you manually fill the clearomiser (a clear cartridge) with e-liquid. Tank systems look nothing like a cigarette, and are a little bit more tricky to use, but have a better throat hit, a more powerful battery life and open you up to a world of different flavours. Check out the Halo Ultra Tank Kit here.

What do you get in an electronic cigarette kit?

A basic starter kit usually contains cartridges or clearomisers, a battery, a manual and a USB charger. The USB charger plugs into your computer or laptop or a USB plug adaptor. Some kits also come with a USB plug adaptor.

Buttons

Some electronic cigarettes (including almost all tank systems) come with a buttons on the battery. These are pressed as you vape and heat up the e-liquid to create vapour.

Cartridges or E-juice?

Some users prefer to fill their cartridges with ejuice. This opens up a world of different flavours, but can also damage the components of your electronic cigarette IF you are not using the right type.

If you are intending to refill cartridges, make sure you buy an electronic cigarette kit which is compatible with e-juice. The Halo cigalike’s warranty becomes invalid if used with e-juice and with good reason – we have seen e-cig batteries warped by use with e-liquid.

E-Juice: A word of warning

E-Juice or nicotine liquid is potentially lethal if consumed in large quantities by a child. As many vapers (e-cig users) have pointed out, there are other lethal substances found in most kitchens – but it is certainly worth keeping nicotine liquid in a child proof container and out of reach of small hands.

Make sure you buy e-juice from a respected source. Although not every reputable supplier is an ECITA (Electronic Cigarette Industry Trading Association) member, the ECITA logo is a mark of quality.

Scams

There are a number of scams on the net, including one run by a company which calls itself ecigdirect (annoyingly close to our name!) These usually entail buying a kit for free or very cheap, after which money is taken from your account on a monthly basis. Cancelling the purchase can be difficult, and entails a restocking fee. If an offer looks too good to be true – it probably is!

You Must Be Over 18 to Buy From E-cigarette Direct

Why do I have to prove my age?

To our website you look under 18.

So, as a responsible retailer, we need to check your age.

You'll only need to do this once and it takes less than a minute.

Our age verification system is quick and easy to complete. Simply enter your date of birth, and our system will use the information from your order to do the rest.

On rare occasions, you might find that you don’t succeed on first try. Don’t worry - our super-friendly customer service team is on hand to ensure that, as long as you are 18 or over, you can still get your vaping supplies!

Once you have confirmed your age we won’t usually need to check again. (Exceptions can occur, for example if you change your name).

(You can help us check your age by ensuring your name and address are spelt absolutely correctly in the order form :) )

How your data is used

We use as little data as possible. The only data that ECigaretteDirect keep is information needed to send your order, and your date of birth (so we only have to check once!)

Your age is checked using Experian, which will check the information you provide against information in existing records to confirm you are over 18. No credit check is performed but a record of the search will be visible to you on your credit report. This will not affect your ability to get credit.

Why do we check age?

As you may know, there has been some concern that under-18’s may try vaping.

This is against both our company policy and the law.

And as responsible retailers, we need to do everything we can to ensure that every customer is of legal age.

For more information, see our Terms and Conditions.

How Secure is e-Cigarette Direct?

Your privacy is important to us, and your personal information should remain just that - personal.

See the little green lock in the search bar? That’s our security certificate (SSL or secure socket layer to be precise). It encrypts all the information you enter so that no-one else can see it.

Information you provide for age verification is sent securely to Experian and no details of the checks are stored in our system. Ever.

If you have any concerns, please call our friendly customer services team on 01792 852843 (Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm).
