An Interview with Spike: Advice for Novices & Mainstream Vaping
Advice for Novices
Background: We asked Spike Babian for advice for novices - but it turned out she had already made a movie of her own!
What main piece of advice would you give a novice who is considering trying an electronic cigarette?
I had made a video back in about March or April of 2009 that’s about 55 minutes but it answers nearly every question that a novice vaper would have or someone who want to try the product would have.
I’ve actually given e-cigarettes to people without this video and I have given e-cigarettes to people with a DVD copy of this video and I found that the percentage grading of people who are successful using the e-cigarette with an informational DVD that teaches them how to use it and how it works and all the different pieces and what everything is called makes a huge impact on people’s ability to successfully switch from smoking cigarette to using an e-cigarette
Maybe you can give me the link later and I’ll link it from the interview.
Do you think there will always be opponents to vaping? Or do you think one day it will be mainstream and accepted?
I’m going to make this refer back to the question you asked before about why non, anti-smoking groups would want to prevent people from using the e-cigarette.
You referred to something about why all these groups would try to would be opposed to e-cigarettes. And essentially, I think that there will always be people who want to be opposed to something. Regardless of what that thing is. They have made it their life’s mission to be opposed to something. So, do I think there will always be opponents? Absolutely, even once it’s proven to be safe, even once it’s proven to be no more dangerous than cooking on a barbecue grill.
You know, once they’ve proven that it’s safer than drinking tap water, I believe there will still be people who would say ‘but what it, but what if’, because these people have made it their life’s mission to be opposed to something. So, there will always be people who are opposed.
There will always be people who are not happy about the idea, and one of the things actually that I learned from Kate from vaper’s network is that there are people who are anti-fun (laughs); anything anti-pleasure. Anything that is pleasurable should be banned.
And these people have an illness in their head where they think that anything that gives people any kind of pleasure should be taken away from those people whether or not it’s safe. And I think that that’s really what it comes down to is that there will always be people who are anti-pleasure. And I think that, you know, if you can get pleasure without harming anybody else that people are entitled to do what they want with their own life.
