Electronic Cigarettes: The Future of Smoking?

Man started to commuicate with grunts, then words, then cave paintings. Writing evolved, first hammered into rocks or carved into wood, then etched onto papyrus and paper. Monks painstakingly copied bibles, before the hand written word gave way to printed matter. Then communication spread via telegraph, morse code, telephone, fax, radio waves, television and now the internet.

Yet we continue to smoke much as we have done for centuries – a tar carrying weed, with the only addition the thousands of chemicals now contained in cigarettes, around 40 of which are carcinogens.

Could it be, then, that the e-cigarette is the future of smoking? Assuming that vice will always exist – and despite the efforts of men from past till present, from Singapore to Saudi Arabia, and now to the anti-smoking lobbies of the West, it always has done – why would it not change in form?

Why not remove all the chemicals and substances that do us harm, apart from the single one that gives us enjoyment? Unfortunately, that one substance, nicotine, is still harmful and addictive – but that still leaves it an awful lot more healthier than a normal cigarette. And, of course, more modern.
