Note - You can find a more recent and in-depth version of this post here: Propylene Glycol in E-Cigs: Is PG dangerous to inhale?
Paul Bergen, from tobaccoharmreduction.org, summarises the current research into propylene glycol, one of the principal ingredients of the e-juice in most electronic cigarettes.
When it comes to recreational nicotine delivery, other than one notable exception, almost every component.....
Recently I displayed 37 of the more controversial smoking ads to smokers and ex-smokers.
Anti-smoking ads have fascinated me ever since I saw research that suggested cigarette warnings could have a very unwelcome effect - increasing the desire to smoke rather than decreasing it!
So I asked smokers and anti-smokers if anti-smoking ads made them want to:
a. Quit
b. Smoke more
c. Had.....
Ever since I read about the man who went to live on a deserted island to try and quit smoking (more on that shortly!), I've been fascinated by the more bizarre ways people have tried to quit smoking. Believe it or not, all of the methods below have been suggested somewhere on the net or used in attempts to.....
When the smoking ban was brought in, pro-ban campaigners claimed it would benefit British pubs.
Since then, over 8000 British pubs have called TIME for the last time.
But one campaigner sees a light, even if it is only an LED one, at the end of the smokeless ban. We talked to Russell about his campaign to save Britain's pubs -.....

The World Self-Medication Federation has directly attacked the electronic cigarette - and for the first time their motivation has been laid bare.
In the past we have had to dig into financial statements for evidence that NRT producers were behind a concerted campaign to discredit the e-cigarette. That digging around found that the anti-smoking organisations that were campaigning against the.....
Anti-smokers claim that smoking has had no effect on the pub trade - but hundreds are shutting down every year.
And pub landlords have been put in prison after customers have used their premises for smoking.
However, conservative MP David Nutall aims to change that via a private member's bill which will give pubs and clubs the choice of.....
[caption id="attachment_627" align="aligncenter" width="450"] Warning labels on cigarettes: Disgusting, but apparently ineffective.[/caption]
When Martin Lindstrom started research for his book Buyology, he took a group of smokers, placed them in an fMRI machine and measured the reactions of their brains while flashing images of cigarette warnings labels at them.
He was astonished by the results.
Not only did they fail to deter.....
On its website, Action on Smoking and Health makes a number of claims regarding smoking, including that the very breath and smell of smokers, even when they are not smoking, can be extremely hazardous to people's health.
What are the claims?
1. 30 minutes of exposure to drifting tobacco smoke can trigger a fatal heart attack.
ASH states that: "...someone else’s smoke.....
