In-depth reviews of the UK’s best pod mods
Oxva VPrime: Superb flavour with all-day battery life
Reviewed by: Emily, ECD Team
The Oxva VPrime combines great flavour with a comfortable, curved design and a clear display. It feels solid in the hand thanks to strong magnetic pod connections, and it’s easy to use for both newer and experienced vapers.
Using the included 0.6ohm pod with Elfliq Peach Ice nic salts, flavour was rich and consistent. The pod lasted around five days before needing replacement, and the draw felt smooth throughout.
The only drawback here is the side-filling port - if the bung isn’t replaced properly, it can lead to leaks.
The 2600mAh battery comfortably lasted a full day of use, and charging took about an hour.
Locking the fire button is simple, but the wattage controls remain active, which meant I sometimes changed settings accidentally.
What’s to like:
✔️ Great flavour performance
✔️ Comfortable, curved design
✔️ All-day battery life
What could be improved:
❌ Side-fill port prone to leaks if not sealed correctly
❌ Wattage buttons can be knocked accidentally
Best for: Vapers who want a flavourful, reliable RDL or DL device with simple operation and long battery life.

Geekvape Aegis Boost 3: Versatile & built to last
Reviewed by: Lloyd, ECD Team
The Aegis Boost 3 is a durable all-in-one kit with enough settings and coil options to suit a wide range of vapers.
It has a solid water, dust and shockproof build, a metal body and a comfortable rubber grip. The touch-activated lock is an interesting feature, though I found it could sometimes unlock in my pocket.
Using the included 0.2ohm coil with a 70:30 shortfill, the flavour was very good and the adjustable airflow felt open and airy.
The device supports a wide range of coils, making it suitable for both 50:50 and high-VG e-liquids. A transparent pod design would be an improvement, as the current black plastic makes it hard to see liquid levels.
The large LED screen is clear and easy to read, with the option to customise colours. With six modes to choose from, including beginner-friendly Smart mode and battery-saving Eco mode, the Aegis Boost 3 works well for both new and advanced users.
What’s to like:
✔️ Durable IP68-rated design
✔️ Six modes for different experience levels
✔️ Supports multiple coil types and vape styles
What could be improved:
❌ Pod could be clearer for better visibility
❌ Touch lock can be accidentally triggered
Best for: Vapers who want a tough, adaptable kit for a variety of e-liquids and vape styles.

Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2: Familiar favourite with more flavour
Reviewed by: Emily, ECD Team
The Luxe XR Max 2 keeps the same solid build, comfortable shape and premium feel that I lived with the original Luxe XR Max, but with a noticeable improvement in airflow.
This subtle change enhances flavour without sacrificing vapour density, making it a worthwhile upgrade for fans of the series.
Using my preferred 0.8ohm pod, performance was smooth and consistent with full flavour. The increased airflow created a more open draw while keeping vapour production satisfying.
Battery life remains excellent at around two days per charge, and recharging is quick.
Eco Mode worked well to extend pod life and produce smoother hits. However, Smart Mode did not visibly activate, and Pulse Mode seemed to shorten coil life.
What’s to like:
✔️ Larger airflow for even better flavour
✔️ Excellent battery life (around two days)
✔️ Fast charging
✔️ Familiar, comfortable design
What could be improved:
❌ Smart Mode activation unclear
❌ Pulse Mode seemed to reduce coil lifespan
Best for: Vapers seeking a versatile pod mod with improved flavour, adjustable airflow, and long battery life for MTL, RDL, or DL vaping.

Voopoo Drag S2: Compact power with impressive flavour
Reviewed by: Maya, ECD Team
The Drag S2 feels great in the hand and is light enough for all-day use.
Buttons are well placed and easy to manage, and the display is clear and simple. There are some attractive colour options, with Glow Pink being a standout, though Pearl White is not to my taste.
The new upgraded PnP X coils performed brilliantly, delivering rich flavour and lasting around seven days of constant use without leaking or excess condensation. Even when switching e-liquid flavours, the coil saturated quickly, keeping the taste clean.
The top-airflow pod allows plenty of air into the chamber, producing large clouds that cloud chasers will enjoy. The strong magnetic connection keeps the pod secure, and the clear window makes it easy to see liquid levels.
The pod needs to be removed to refill, and the rubber bung isn’t as robust as some other refill methods, but filling is still straightforward.
With a 2500mAh battery, the Drag S2 lasts between one and two days depending on use, charges via USB-C, and has six safety protections built in.
It is compact, comfortable to hold and ideal for anyone moving into DL vaping or wanting a powerful yet portable device.
What’s to like:
✔️ Compact, lightweight and comfortable to hold
✔️ Excellent flavour from long-lasting upgraded coils
✔️ Top airflow design for cloud production and leak resistance
What could be improved:
❌ Pod must be removed to refill
❌ Rubber bung could be more durable
Best for: Vapers wanting a compact RDL or DL device with rich flavour, large clouds and reliable coil performance.

Vaporesso Armour G: Stylish design and standout battery life
Reviewed by: Charlie, ECD Team
The Armour G kit in brown has a distinctive faux-leather, steampunk-inspired finish with a soft, spongy feel. It sits comfortably in the hand, with well-placed buttons, a solid locking switch and a grippy rubber base.
The LED display along the side is a nice touch, with a clear, easy-to-use menu and playful design themes.
Using GTX coils, it delivered excellent flavour with 50/50 e-liquids and no leaking issues. The 0.2ohm coil produced strong vapour with no spitting, though airflow felt a bit tight for 70/30 liquids.
The 2ml pod is easy to fill, and the liquid level is always visible - a rarity for TPD-compliant kits.
Battery life is impressive for a high-wattage pod mod, easily lasting a full day even with the 0.2ohm coil. Charging is quick, the cable locks in securely, and the displayed charge time is accurate – something many devices get wrong.
What’s to like:
✔️ Distinctive faux-leather design with comfortable grip
✔️ Excellent flavour and leak-free use with 50/50 liquids
✔️ Brilliant battery life for a high-wattage pod mod
What could be improved:
❌ Paint on rear wears over time
❌ Airflow a little tight for 70/30 liquids
Best for: Vapers wanting a stylish pod mod with excellent flavour across MTL, RDL, and DL styles, plus standout battery life.

Vaporesso Luxe X Pro: Compact, familiar and easy to use
Reviewed by: Emily, ECD Team
The Luxe X Pro is lightweight, small and compact, with a slightly larger and brighter screen than its sister device, the Luxe XR Max. It uses a simple button for settings rather than full touch control, and its portable size makes it ideal for pocket carry.
Like other Luxe devices, it’s compatible with Luxe X and XR pods and coils - a feature I always appreciate. The flavour was good, and I didn’t experience any leaking during use.
However, the autodraw function can be unreliable, occasionally cutting out mid-draw. Pressing the fire button consistently gives better results.
The 2ml pod holds enough liquid to avoid constant refills, and the filling port is easy to access with a simple rubber bung.
Battery life from the 1500mAh cell lasts roughly a day, and charging is very quick, with the device even showing the exact time remaining to a full charge.
In many ways, this is the Luxe XR Max in a smaller package – the main trade-off being a reduced battery capacity. If you already like the XR Max, you’ll likely enjoy the Luxe X Pro too. It’s familiar, easy to use and a solid all-rounder for vapers who want a more compact device.
What’s to like:
✔️ Lightweight, compact and pocket-friendly
✔️ Compatible with Luxe X and XR pods/coils
✔️ Bright, clear screen with simple button controls
What could be improved:
❌ Autodraw function can be unreliable
❌ Smaller battery than the Luxe XR Max
Best for: Fans of the Luxe XR Max who want similar performance in a lighter, more portable kit.

Smok Nord 4: Compact power
Reviewed by: James, ECD Team
The Smok Nord 4 brings true pod mod performance to the popular Nord series, packing up to 80 watts of power and a 2000mAh battery into a slim, pocket-friendly body. I found the device simple to use - with one possible exception being the slightly fiddly airflow wheels. It was also comfortable to vape thanks to the duck billed mouthpiece.
As the device works with both RPM and RPM 2 coils, you can switch between MTL and DL vaping styles. The vapour production is pretty dense for the size of the device, and the flavour proved solid across a range of e-liquid profiles.
The battery life is decent for the size, lasting a day for most vapers, and USB-C charging makes top-ups quick. Its compact design makes it ideal for everyday carry without sacrificing power.
This is one of the older devices on this list, but a combination of solid performance and enduring popularity means it still merits a mention on this listing.
What’s to like:
✔️ 80W of power in a compact size
✔️ Compatible with RPM and RPM 2 coils for MTL or DL vaping
✔️ Comfortable duck-billed mouthpiece
What could be improved:
❌ Airflow wheels can be fiddly to adjust
Best for: Vapers who want a portable device that still delivers high power and versatile coil options.

Smok RPM2: Compact, colourful and versatile
Reviewed by: Joshua, ECD Team
The Smok RPM2 combines pocket-friendly size with striking colour options, making it a kit that looks as good as it performs. While it’s a little heavier than some pod mods, the extra weight adds to the sturdy feel without making it impractical for daily carry.
Coil compatibility is a real strength. With support for both RPM and RPM2 pods, you get plenty of choice depending on your e-liquid. In my testing, the 0.16ohm coil in the RPM2 pod gave the best flavour with high-VG liquids, while the 0.4ohm coil in the RPM pod proved the most reliable all-rounder. The 0.3ohm coil (RPM2 pod) struggled with 50/50 blends, and the 0.6 and 0.8ohm coils (RPM pod) burned out more quickly than I’d like. Still, the stronger options delivered consistently good performance with long coil life.
The pod system itself is straightforward. Swapping between RPM and RPM2 pods is quick, and the wide filling port fits almost any bottle tip. Airflow is smooth and adjustable, and restrictors are included if you prefer a tighter draw. The only drawback was a little seepage when using maximum airflow, though never enough to cause a proper leak.
The 2000mAh battery comfortably lasted me through a day of use, and the fast charging stood out as a real benefit. While there are bigger batteries available, the balance between portability and performance here works very well.
What’s to like:
✔️ Attractive colour options with a sturdy design
✔️ Wide coil compatibility across RPM and RPM2 pods
✔️ Easy-to-refill pod with smooth airflow and restrictors included
✔️ Fast charging and reliable all-day battery life
What could be improved:
❌ Slightly heavy for its size
❌ Some coils don’t suit 50/50 e-liquids as well
❌ Airflow can cause minor liquid seepage
Best for: Vapers who want a compact yet versatile pod mod with strong coil options, good flavour, and a colourful design.

Voopoo Argus Pro 2: Fantastic flavour & vapour
Reviewed by: James, ECD Team
An upgraded version of the popular Argus Pro, the Argus Pro 2 is another strong entry from Voopoo that delivers exactly what I would expect from one of their sub-ohm pod mods. It feels premium in the hand thanks to the leather and metal finish, and the solid, tactile buttons give it a reassuring quality.
With the included 0.15ohm coil and high-VG e-liquid, flavour and vapour production were excellent. The new Boost/Turbo mode adds an extra punch when you want it, while Smart mode automatically sets the ideal wattage for your coil, which is perfect for quick changes.
For those who prefer full control, RBA mode allows manual wattage adjustments.
The 3000mAh battery kept up with my heavier vaping habits, lasting most of a day even at high wattage. My only real gripe is the side-filling design, which means removing the pod to refill. It is not a deal-breaker, but a top-fill option would have been more convenient.
What’s to like:
✔️ High-quality design with a premium leather and metal finish
✔️ Smart mode that automatically sets the optimal wattage
✔️ Excellent flavour and vapour production
✔️ Boost/Turbo mode for increased vapour output
What could be improved:
❌ Side-filling design means the pod must be removed to refill
❌ Slightly bulky for a pocket carry compared to smaller pod mods
Best for: Sub-ohm vapers who want a premium-feeling pod mod with strong flavour, dense vapour production and flexible performance modes.

What are pod mods and who are they for?
Pod mods bridge the gap between simple pod kits and more complex vape mods.
They offer more power and features than a standard pod device, yet remain much easier to use than a full mod kit. With options like adjustable wattage, larger batteries and a choice of coils, they suit a variety of e-liquids and vaping styles.
Their flexibility is a big draw. You can switch between MTL (Mouth-to-Lung), RDL (Restricted Direct-Lung) and DL (Direct-Lung) vaping simply by changing the pod or coil, allowing you to fine-tune your experience without buying a new device.
This makes them a great fit for vapers who have moved past their first starter kit and want more control, as well as experienced users looking for a smaller, more portable setup.
With replaceable pods and coils, you can change performance and style without replacing the whole kit, making them a versatile and cost-effective choice.
How did we choose the kits?
We’ve used three criteria for selecting the kits in this post:
- Initial testing
- Popularity of the device
- Feedback
Before we put a device on sale, we receive a sample for initial testing. I generally get a good idea of how good it is by how soon it gets to me – if our product manager keeps hold of the sample for himself, it generally means it’s really good!
We also take into account feedback from customers. As we sell thousands of kits every month, this is quite rapid. In fact, unless we are blown away by a new device, we don’t usually list it until we have had plenty of feedback from our customers.
After all, sometimes a device can shine in initial testing but fail to withstand the test of time.
Finally...
Pod mods keep evolving, with new releases arriving every few weeks.
We’ll be watching closely and updating this guide whenever a device stands out for its performance, design, or value. If you’re shopping later in the year, be sure to check back for the latest recommendations.
