What’s included in a vape kit?
A vape kit will typically contain:
- A vape device that contains or holds the battery (please note, for some mod devices, you will usually need to purchase a battery separately)
- A vape tank or pod that can be filled with e-liquid or a prefilled pod that already contains e-liquid
- Compatible coils that go inside the tank/pod (where applicable)
- A compatible charging cable
- A user manual
Please note: For refillable vape kits, you will need to purchase e-liquid separately. However, at E-Cigarette Direct we provide a FREE compatible e-liquid for each kit purchased.
What types of vape kit are there, and which is right for me?
Starter kits are ideal for both beginners and vapers looking for an easy-to-use device. Starter kits encompass a variety of device types including pod, pen and cigalike devices, but share easy-to-use features perfect for first-time vapers.
Pod vape kits are formed of a pod (which can be prefilled or refillable) and a device/battery that are clipped together. They include prefilled systems, which we find are ideal if you are switching from disposable devices, and refillable systems, which are the best option if you are looking for maximum cost savings, reduced waste and a wider range of flavour options. You will also find more advanced pod kits - these typically provide more power and functionality than standard pod kits, bridging the gap between pod and mod devices.
Vape pens have a slim, often round design, resembling the pens that give them their names. Vape pens are usually discrete and compact, fitting easily into a tight pocket. Typically easy to use, they are another great option if you are new to vaping.
Mod and tank kits are formed of a device (the mod) and a tank that holds the e-liquid. They are usually bulkier than vape pens and pods and often have a larger battery capacity. Some mods have advanced functionality, while others are designed for ease of use. These devices are the best options for vapers looking for larger clouds of vapour.
What to consider when choosing a vape kit
When choosing a vape kit, key elements to consider include:
- Battery size/longevity: How long would you like your vape device to last between charges? (Do note that a larger battery doesn’t necessarily mean a longer-lasting battery, as this also depends on the device’s power output.)
- Ease of use: Do you want a device that you can simply put together and inhale to vape, or a more advanced device with multiple modes and customisable features?
- Size/form factor: Would you prefer a more compact/lightweight device you can carry in your pocket, or a larger, more robust device?

What else do I need to buy with a vape kit?
To get started with refillable kits, you’ll also need some e-liquid, while some mod kits will also require you to buy a replaceable battery. Prefilled pod kits typically don’t require you to buy anything extra. However, we do recommend you have some extra pods to hand and a spare device to use.
Most vape kits will also include a suitable charging cable. If not, these can be bought separately.
Are vape kits cheaper than disposables?
While standard disposable vape devices are usually cheaper than the initial cost of a reusable vape kit, they tend to only last around a day of use - making them more expensive with continued use.
What’s the best vape kit to use when switching from disposables?
After helping thousands of customers switch from disposables to refillable devices, we’ve found that a pod device paired with a disposable style flavours such as bar salts e-liquids makes the best option. Prefilled devices are the best option for convenience, while refillable devices are the best for cost effectiveness and reduced waste.
