Best vape mod kits in depth

Vaporesso Armour G

Vaporesso Armour G

Reviewed by: Lloyd, ECD Team

I’m very impressed with the Armour G, it’s yet another great kit from Vaporesso - with a solid build, an impressive range of modes and great flavour production.

I found the build quality solid with a comfortable grip and rubber base, and it’s surprisingly compact for this kind of kit.

The device itself outputs up to 80W and, while this may not be enough for extreme cloud chasers, it’s plenty for most vapers - with a range of coils to support all vape styles and e-liquids. I always find a smart mode option handy and it makes the device more accessible to less experienced users.

Using the included 0.4ohm GTX coil and 50:50 bar salts at 22W, the flavour produced was excellent - much better than I get from my other regular devices.

In terms of operating the device, there’s an impressive amount of customisation options - with Smart, Pulse and Eco modes, adjustable screen brightness and a range of display themes. I’m also very pleased to see a wattage lock option and a physical locking switch that prevents misfires in my pocket!

What we like:

  • Supports a range of vape styles
  • Choice of 3 modes
  • Great flavour production

Geekvape Aegis Legend 3

Geekvape Aegis Legend 3

Reviewed by: Corey, ECD Team

Having used many Geekvape mods in the past, I expected the Aegis Legend 3 to be tough, powerful and high-quality. However, I was blown away by just how high-quality this device is - quite possibly the best build quality I’ve ever seen!

With Geekvape’s signature IP68 protection, the mod feels extremely robust and the paint finish is top notch.

With up to 200W of power and a choice of 6 modes, this is definitely a device for more advanced vapers and, as an experienced vaper myself, I can’t fault the performance of this kit.

With dual 18650 batteries, the battery life was impressive - lasting me a full day of use at 70W. While this does depend on usage frequency and wattage, the replaceable batteries mean you can always swap them for charged replacements if you wish.

The included Z Fli tank is just as high-quality - with a superb build and generous top-filling port that easily accommodates my 100ml shortfill e-liquid bottle.

Using the included 0.15ohm coil, the tank produced excellent flavour and vapour with a smooth airflow - everything I’ve come to expect from Geekvape tanks.

The new Smart Unlock feature works surprisingly well - unlocking the buttons when you hold the leather at the back of the device. However, it may work a little too well as it seemed to unlock when anything came into contact with it - so doesn’t stop all accidental presses or misfires.

Overall, this is an extremely impressive mod kit that I’d recommend to advanced vapers looking for excellent flavour, vapour and fantastic build quality. I’d also love to see Geekvape apply this level of quality to a pod mod device in the future.

What we like:

  • High-quality, durable design
  • Fantastic flavour & vapour
  • Impressive battery life
  • Wide range of modes

Aspire Rover Plus

Aspire Rover Plus

Reviewed by: Corey, ECD Team

Having used Aspire kits in the past, the first thing I was pleased to notice about the Rover Plus was the included AF tank and AF coils as I’ve always found these coils to have great flavour and longevity.

I was proved correct when testing the kit with my Halo Max Blue Raspberry salts. The flavour and draw are excellent - up there with the top MTL kits on the market. However, the tank could benefit from a little more airflow adjustment as it felt a little restricted for my liking.

The Rover mod features very good build quality and an impressive 2600mAh battery in a fairly compact mod kit. The choice of 5 operation modes adds a lot of customisation and is ideal for intermediate to advanced vapers who like a lot of control over their vape.

While the 40W output may not be enough for some, there are still enough compatible coil options to suit a wide range of vapers’ needs.

Overall, this is a great kit, particularly for MTL vapers who value flavour and customisation in their vape.

  • Ideal for MTL vapers
  • Great flavour

Smok Morph 3

Smok Morph 3

Reviewed by: Maya, ECD Team

As a long-time cloud-chaser, I’m used to using powerful, replaceable battery mods. While this kind of device suits my vape style, they do tend to be very bulky, advanced and complicated to use.

With a very large 230W of power and dual 18650 batteries, I was expecting the Smok Morph 3 to be much the same. However, I was pleased to find it surprisingly lightweight and easy to use with a choice of just 2 modes (Variable Wattage and Temperature Control). It also came with an extensive user manual to help you get to grips with using it.

The mod also has an impressive battery life - I found I only had to charge the batteries twice over 3 days of use. However, I did have issues with charging the device when needed. Firstly, it took a very long time to fully charge the batteries - which is expected with a dual battery mod but is still inconvenient. I also found the provided charging lead to be very short and difficult to insert into the charging port.

While this is a mod review, as I tested this mod as part of a kit it’s worth mentioning the included Smok T-Air Subtank. This tank produced great flavour and the airflow design allows for a very open, airy inhale and plenty of vapour - which is great for a cloud chaser like me!

The tank’s filling port is conveniently positioned at the top and is very large - making it perfect for using shortfill vape juices. It also has a very strong, sturdy design - which I confirmed when I accidentally dropped it and discovered no damage!

The only issue I did find with the vape tank was that it didn’t fit as securely onto the device as I’d have liked. However, it’s hard to determine whether this is specific to the mod or the tank itself.

What we like:

  • Powerful yet lightweight
  • Long-lasting battery
  • Easy to use
  • Great flavour & clouds

Innokin Adept Zlide: Best vape mod starter kit

Innokin Adept Zlide

Reviewed by: James, ECD Team

Vape shops and websites often recommend a pod or pen-style device like the Aspire PockeX to new vapers. But not everyone wants a compact device.

If you’re looking for something a bit chunkier, with great battery life but still easy to use, Innokin’s Adept Zlide is hard to beat.

First, there’s the intelligent wattage selection. The device gives you a range of power options to choose from depending on the coil you are using. This is a great option for new vapers, as it takes the guesswork out of selecting which wattage to use. By avoiding user error, you can also expect better flavour and longer-lasting coils.

If you’re clumsy (like me!) you’ll also appreciate the toughness of this device. The Adept mod is IP67 dustproof, shock-proof and water resistant, meaning it can take the occasional drop (even into water!) and carry on working.

The device comes with a 3000mAh battery, giving it an excellent battery life. Overall this is a great mod both for beginners and vapers who prefer an MTL vape.

  • Great for beginners
  • Intelligent wattage selection
  • Dustproof, shock-proof and water resistant

Lost Vape Centaurus N100

Lost Vape Centaurus N100

Reviewed by: Corey, ECD Team

The first thing I noticed about the Centaurus N100 mod was its design. The device is quite large for a single battery mod, but I soon realised this is due to it supporting both 18650 and 21700 battery options. Being made from plastic, it doesn’t feel as robust as other mods but that does help keep it lightweight.

The included Centaurus Sub Ohm tank is good quality with a full metal build and wide drip tip, and I like that the top cap can be completely removed - providing plenty of room for refilling. I was also pleased to see larger coils compared to most sub-ohm kits that use slimmer, taller coils. Using the included 0.25ohm UB Max coil with my Blue Raspberry shortfill, the flavour production was very impressive.

With up to 100W output, there’s plenty of scope for DL vapers to produce some serious clouds and I like the cog button control that you simply turn to adjust your wattage. The front-placed on/off switch is also a nice feature.

Overall, this is a great option for DL vapers - particularly those using shortfills - who value power and flavour production.

Also see: The Centaurus N200 for a more powerful, dual-battery version.

  • Large yet lightweight design
  • Easy refilling
  • Impressive flavour

Aspire Zelos 3

Aspire Zelos 3

Reviewed by: Corey, ECD Team

The Aspire Zelos 3 is a great option for those looking for long-lasting power and customisation.

Design wise, this feels like a premium vape kit - with both the Zelos 3 mod and Nautilus 3 vape tank having very good build quality. The mod’s rounded design provides a comfortable grip and I like the tank’s easy sliding top fill design.

The mod features an impressive 3200mAh battery and will last most users a full day of use depending on wattage, coil resistance and usage frequency. This kit has broad appeal - with a wide range of coil options to cater to a range of vape styles and a choice of 5 modes offering a lot of customisation.

Using the kit with the included 0.7ohm mesh Nautilus coil, the flavour production was very good and, while not as strong as with some similar devices, I appreciated that the taste wasn’t too overpowering. I personally found the airflow to be a little restricted for my liking but the draw does simulate a cigarette well and would be great for former smokers.

  • Choice of 5 modes
  • Long-lasting battery

Vaporesso Target 100 & iTank 2

Vaporesso Target 100 & iTank 2

Reviewed by: Corey, ECD Team

At E-Cigarette Direct, we’ve always been fans of the Vaporesso Target 100. In fact, we’ve written a whole blog post on its amazing flavour. So, I tested out the Target 100 as part of the newly updated Target 100 iTank 2 kit to see what all the fuss is about!

The mod itself was a pleasure to use - sitting comfortably in hand and with a clear, easy-to-read screen and nice, tactile buttons.

The option of being able to use both 18650 and 21700 batteries is a great bonus. As a heavier user, the 18650 battery isn’t enough to get me through a day’s vaping, so the 21700 option would be ideal for me.

The mod’s 100W output was enough to provide me with a satisfying Direct-Lung (DL) vape but may not be enough for those who prefer huge amounts of power. (These users may want to opt for the twice as powerful, dual-battery Target 200.)

While the Target 100 has a choice of vaping modes available (including Variable Wattage (VW), Bypass, Pulse and DIY), I found myself sticking to F(t) flavour-enhancing mode. This really did give something extra when it came to flavour production with my favourite vape juice (Aisu Blue Raspberry shortfill).

Overall, this is a great mod device in all key areas (operation, battery life and flavour production), with no major downfalls. While it may not be powerful enough for some, the option of the Target 200 is always there so Vaporesso have really covered all areas here.

What we like:

  • Choice of battery options
  • Good choice of modes
  • Comfortable in hand with easy-to-read screen

How we selected these devices

To select the mods here we’ve used a combination of our own ratings, the popularity of these devices, both in terms of sales and ‘on the scene’, as well as taking into account customer feedback. Very occasionally we’ll add a just-launched mod to the list – but only if it totally blows us away in testing.

All the kits here are made to UK standards and are compliant with EU and UK regulations.
