Elf Bar 600: Sleek, simple and familiar
Reviewed by: Helen, ECD Team
What we like: ✔️ Strong, consistent flavour from start to finish ✔️ Simple, fuss-free setup and easy-to-use pod system ✔️ Slim, pen-style design |
What we don’t like: Airy draw may not suit those who prefer a tighter inhale |
I found the Elf Bar 600 refreshingly simple to use. It has the strong, reliable flavour I used to enjoy with disposables and that sleek pen-style format that feels comfortable and familiar in the hand.
Setup was effortless - I just popped in a pod and started vaping. The pods are light, compact and easy to replace, making it a great option if you’d rather avoid refilling or fiddling with coils. The flavour stayed consistent from the first puff to the last, and the coil easily lasted through the 2ml of e-liquid.
The battery life comfortably lasted for a full pod before needing a recharge, and a small light flashed red when the charge dropped below 30%. It’s a shame there’s no charging cable in the box but overall, I found it a smooth, no-fuss vape that delivers great flavour and convenience.

SKE 600 Pro: Compact, simple and long-lasting
Reviewed by: Helen, ECD Team
What we like: ✔️ Strong, pleasant flavour ✔️ Consistent taste throughout pod life ✔️ Compact, lightweight pen-style design ✔️ Clear instructions and effortless setup |
What we don’t like: Can’t see how much e-liquid is in pods |
The SKE 600 Pro keeps things refreshingly simple. It’s compact, lightweight and easy to carry around, with a pen-style form factor that feels familiar and comfortable to hold.
Setup was effortless – I just slotted in the pod and it was ready to go. The device lights up white when in use, which gives it a clean, minimal look, even if the materials feel a little budget.
Flavour was strong and consistent from start to finish, easily lasting the full 2ml of e-liquid without tasting burnt or weak. The draw felt quite airy, which may not appeal to those who prefer a tighter inhale, but it worked well for a smooth, light vape. The pods twist slightly once inserted – oddly satisfying, though I wish they were transparent so I could see the remaining liquid.
Battery life comfortably lasted longer than older disposables and outlived the pod itself before needing a recharge. There’s no real warning before it dies, and there’s no cable included, which feels like a small oversight. Still, it’s a convenient, reliable vape with solid flavour and great simplicity.

Innokin Go Series: 3 versions to choose from
Reviewed by: James, ECD Team
What we like: ✔️ Straightforward one-button operation across all models ✔️ Choice of disposable-style or refillable tanks ✔️ Consistent performance with good flavour and throat hit ✔️ The Go Max combines simplicity with big vapour production |
What we don’t like: Still uses micro-USB charging rather than USB-C |
The Innokin Go Series has always been about getting back to basics – easy, affordable vaping without the hassle. The original Go S became a hit because of its sheer simplicity. The tank comes with a fixed coil, so when the flavour starts to fade you just replace the whole thing. I found filling was quick and clean, and for a straightforward device it produces surprisingly good vapour and throat hit.
The Go Z builds on that success. It uses replaceable Z coils instead of disposable tanks, which means less waste and lower running costs. You also get adjustable airflow, so you can choose between a tight draw or a looser inhale. It’s a small step up in complexity, but still very beginner-friendly.
Then there’s the Go Max, which takes things in a new direction. It’s chunkier than the others, but the extra size gives you an impressive 3000mAh battery and the power for smooth Direct-Lung vaping. I found vapour was soft, airy and surprisingly thick for such a simple pen. It’s a great option for anyone who wants clouds without the learning curve of a mod kit.
Across the range, the Go Series offers something for everyone – whether you’re after disposable-style convenience, refillable value or a fuss-free way to enjoy a bigger inhale. It’s vaping made simple, and that’s exactly why it works.

Innokin Endura T18II: Classic pen-style performance
Reviewed by: James, ECD Team
What we like: ✔️ Great flavour and throat hit ✔️ Simple controls with 3 easy heat settings ✔️ Solid battery life, long-lasting coils ✔️ Handy magnetic cap keeps the mouthpiece clean |
What we don’t like: Filling the tank is a little fiddlier than modern pod systems |
You don’t always need the latest release to get a great vape, and the Innokin Endura T18II proves it. This slim, classic pen-style device has been around for years but continues to impress both new and experienced vapers alike.
I found it easy to use straight out of the box, with simple controls that make small adjustments possible without complication. The 3 heat settings let you fine-tune vapour warmth, while the airflow ring allows you to switch between a tighter, cigarette-style draw or a looser inhale. It’s a great balance between simplicity and control.
I comfortably get a day’s use from a charge, while the long-lasting coils make it more economical than many fixed-coil pod kits. The magnetic top cap is a thoughtful touch – it keeps the mouthpiece clean when not in use. Filling the tank takes a bit more care than popping in a pod, but once you’re set up, the performance is consistently smooth and satisfying.

Aspire PockeX: Best vape pen for throat hit
Reviewed by: James, ECD Team
What we like: ✔️ Superb throat hit ✔️ Easy-top-fill ✔️ Great build quality |
What we don’t like: Fiddlier to fill than modern kits Glass cracks easily if dropped |
Most of the devices in this guide are relatively new. One exception is the Aspire PockeX. In the fast-changing vape market, it’s rare to see a device that first became available in 2016 still on sale.
Despite its age, the PockeX remains hugely popular – and for good reason. It’s sturdy, reliable and simple to use, but what I love most is the throat hit. Paired with a good freebase e-liquid like Halo Originals, it delivers the kind of satisfaction only ex-smokers will truly appreciate.
It does have its quirks. Filling the tank is a little more fiddly than on newer systems, and the glass section can crack if dropped. A vape band helps add protection, and the glass is replaceable if you do break it. Small compromises aside, this is still one of the most dependable vape pens on the market.

Vaporesso GTX GO 80: Easy to use, great for clouds
Reviewed by: Lloyd, ECD Team
What we like: ✔️ Easy single-button operation ✔️ Smooth Direct-Lung draw with good vapour production ✔️ Simple sliding top-fill design |
What we don’t like: Chunkier than typical pen-style vapes |
If you want to combine Direct-Lung, cloud-filled vaping with a simple pen device, until recently you had few options other than the Smok Stick V9. Vaporesso has opened up this field with the GTX GO 80 - combining the form factor of a pen with the power needed for clouds, plus an easy-to-use design that makes it accessible to most vapers.
The GTX GO 80 combines a 3000mAh battery in a lightweight (but chunky) pen-style device. As the name suggests, the GTX GO 80 can output up to 80 watts of power. Compatible with the GTX coil range, it can handle resistances as low as 0.2Ω - providing some serious clouds. There’s also an adjustable airflow control, allowing you to create a more airy or restricted inhale depending on your preference.
There’s no wattage to adjust and no display to get your head around. Instead, the device automatically selects the best wattage for your coil. That means even if you prefer simpler vape devices you can still enjoy a device that has plenty of oomph.

Innokin Sceptre Tube: Direct-Lung kit suitable for beginners
Reviewed by: James, ECD Team
What we like: ✔️ Direct-Lung performance with simple single-button control ✔️ Smooth, flavourful vapour and consistent output ✔️ Two power levels to adjust warmth and intensity ✔️ Easy sliding top-fill and push-fit coil design |
What we don’t like: A bit bulkier than typical pen-style vapes |
What I love about the Innokin Sceptre Tube is that it offers Direct-Lung capability with single-button pod simplicity. It’s straightforward to use, even for newer vapers, with one button that handles both power and activation. Refilling is easy thanks to the sliding top-fill design, and the coils simply push into place.
The two power settings let you choose between a cooler or warmer vape, while the adjustable airflow allows you to make the draw looser or slightly more restricted. It delivers smooth, consistent flavour and a satisfying amount of vapour for such a compact device.
It’s a bit chunkier than classic pen vapes, but that’s a fair trade-off for the extra battery life and Direct-Lung performance. If you’re looking for a simple, reliable way to step into a looser inhale style without complexity, the Sceptre Tube is an excellent starting point.

How we chose the devices
It’s always tempting when writing a post like this to fill it with the latest, shiny devices.
But that would be a mistake. Despite advances in technology, there are older vape kits that have withstood the test of time – and they’ve done so for a good reason.
Instead, to select the kits here we’ve used a combination of our own ratings, the popularity of these devices, both in terms of sales and ‘on the scene’, as well as taking into account customer feedback. Very occasionally we’ll add a just launched kit to the list – but only if it totally blows us away in testing.
All the kits here are made to UK standards and are compliant with EU and UK regulations.
What are vape pens?
Vape pens were originally named for their slim, pen-like shape. Early versions were narrow, lightweight and simple, which made them a popular choice for beginners.
Over time, the term has broadened. These days, many vapers use “vape pen” to describe any compact, stick-shaped device - including some smaller pod systems.
Whatever the design, all vape pens share the same basic setup: a battery that powers the coil, and a tank or pod that holds the e-liquid. When the coil heats up, it turns the liquid into vapour.
Most vape pens are beginner-friendly, designed for easy operation rather than cloud chasing. They’re quick to set up, simple to maintain, and deliver a satisfying, cigarette-style experience.
