Something about getting off a plane makes me wants to vape. There is a certain pleasure in taking a moment to settle after the hustle and bustle of the airport, but the more obvious reason is that I wanted some nicotine. I stood outside with a handful of smokers, vaping for ten minutes or so and becoming acutely aware.....
Recently I spoke on a panel at the UKVIA forum to discuss Stop Smoking Services’ use of electronic cigarettes.
In preparation for the panel, I spent some time talking to Stop Smoking Services (SSS), trying to understand the challenges they faced. Of course, time was limited in a 45 minute panel, and many questions went unaddressed.
So for those who are.....
“There is an epidemic of youth vaping!” They say, showing a picture of a JUUL or pod-style device in the hands of someone too young to legally buy it.
They release ominous videos telling us that vaping “reprograms your brain” and warn of the spectre of a gateway to smoking at every opportunity.
They want parents to be scared, and they.....
Update 12/08/19:
The Vaping is Not Tobacco Campaign have provided this update:
There have been slow signatures so far, but vapers should understand that if they do not take a stand, regulation will arrive. The problem could be the last WHO-report, in which no distinction is made between tobacco and e-cigarettes.
Countries are regulating vaping like tobacco (The Netherlands is.....
Electronic Cigarette Summit 6
I still can’t believe that we’ve reached the 6th E-Cig Summit - it doesn’t seem so long ago that the first one was held! This is very much a non-commercial conference, with sales pitches banned (hooray!) and proficient speakers who are good at lightening up some challenging topics with a bit of humour. Add that to.....
So you want to set up your own vape shop. You’ve found a location, have a product wish list as long as your arm and have gone all Laurence Llewelyn Bowen with your store design.
But there’s a problem: cash. Or lack of it. And getting finance out of the bank manager these days is about as easy as convincing.....
Big tobacco companies are heavily promoting heat not burn (HNB) products to vape shops around the UK, in some cases offering cash incentives to stock their product. While this could lead to a short term profit boost, this could be a poor long term move for vape shops.
How has the vape industry affected big tobacco?
In 1990, the UK population.....
An Interview with Karen House – Leicester City Stop Smoking Service
Listening to Louise Ross from the Leicester City Stop Smoking Service last year I was astonished by some of the reasons smokers are continuing to smoke.
For example, some people are still smoking because they fear popcorn lung (very rare, and zero established cases from vaping) more than lung cancer.....
For the first time, we have a study which looks at the effect of vaping on the lungs over the long term. The result? No negative impact on the lungs over a period of several years.
Most vapers are ex-smokers, and could be expected to have some lung damage. To get round this problem, the researchers decided to seek out.....
What is the e-cig summit?
For the last five years the E-Cig Summit has been bringing together vapers, researchers, industry (both independent and big tobacco and pharma), public health and government.
The summit has been key in cutting through misinformation and contributing towards a huge change in attitudes towards e-cigs. I think it is probably also one of the reasons the.....
If you've heard of the US surgeon generals report on e-cigarettes, you're probably aware that it is far from positive.
The report:
painted a picture of an e-cigarette epidemic amongst youth smokers
ignored rapidly falling smoking rates amongst youth since e-cigs became popular
used data from smoking studies to reach conclusions on nicotine in vapour
ignored the potential health benefits.....
Dripping is awesome.
A little more hands-on and hard work than vaping with a tank, I’ll admit, but the flavour and clouds of vapour are hard to beat even with a sub ohm tank.
But if you’ve been reading the news over the last few weeks, you’ve probably heard another side to the story.
According to various articles, dripping is a new.....
The Welsh government may have failed to ban e-cigs in public places, but they’re determined that if you do use e-cigarettes to get off tobacco cigarettes, you’re not going to enjoy it.
In its latest attack on vapers, Public Health Wales has stated:
confectionary-like flavours of e-liquid should not be permitted, in order to reduce the appeal of vaping to children and.....
The FDA’s disastrous deeming regulations for e-cigarettes are all based around the legal definition of “tobacco product”:
“Any product made or derived from tobacco that is intended for human consumption, including any component, part, or accessory of a tobacco product.”
This means that e-juice is a “tobacco product” because the nicotine used is “made or derived from tobacco.” Devices and other.....
Back in 2013, e-cigs faced a huge threat: Medical regulation.
If medical regulation had gone ahead in Europe, vaping as we know it would have been changed for ever.
Tanks would have disappeared off the shelves, e-liquid would only be available on the black market and the only devices you could buy in shops would be out-of-date cigalikes.
Part of the reason.....
