Like many people, Bernd Mayer had encountered the widespread claims that 60 mg of nicotine is enough to kill an average-sized adult. But unlike most people, he didn’t accept it at face value. He went to look for the actual evidence.
After following a chain of “circular and often misleading references” he eventually found where the figure had come from:.....

Welsh Assembly Needs to Hear From Vapers "On The Front Line"
Last Friday I got the chance to meet Edwina Hart, who is Business Minister for Wales and also our AM, at her surgery in Clydach to discuss the public ban on e-cigs in Wales.
I wanted to share some of the details with other vapers and also retailers, because to.....
Updated November 2017 with the first long term data for the effect of vaping on the lungs.
Whether lurking in the comments section of a vaping-related news story or in a beer-soaked pub conversation, most vapers will eventually encounter the piece of folk wisdom that:
inhaling anything that isn’t air isn’t good for your lungs.
We might not like it, but it.....
A Report on the All Party Parliamentary Committee on E-Cigs (September 9th 2015)
The All Party Parliamentary Committee on e-cigs met again yesterday (you can see details of the last one here). Clive Bates and Oliver Kershaw of E-Cigarette Forum were the main speakers, and the committee focussed on the Public Health England report and its impact.
I’ve put together these.....
Journalists, scientists and public health experts have all had a lot to say about electronic cigarettes recently.
As you’d expect when a subject’s as controversial as this one, what they’ve been saying covers a wide spectrum of accuracy.
Some of it’s highly reliable, some might benefit from a less biased interpretation and of course quite a bit is just wrong.
And then there’s.....
Amongst all the recent negative media stories on e-cigarettes a new report by Public Health England (PHE) has shone a positive light on e-cigarettes.
Although the media headlines are focused on how ‘E-Cigs Could Be Prescribed on the NHS’ this is not the main focus of the report.
The key messages from the report are:
Vaping is 95% safer than smoking

“E-cigarettes are just the latest gimmick from Big Tobacco to hook a new generation on their products. The majority of e-cigarette brands are owned by tobacco companies.”
You might be hoping that this is a joke – a scathing piece of satire of anti-vaping arguments – but you’d be sadly mistaken. This is a direct quote from the CurbIt anti-vaping.....

There are 2.5 million vapers in the UK. An estimated 30 million people have vaped in America, and there are many millions more around the world.
Two of them have experienced a case of lipoid pneumonia.
Both were former smokers.
Despite the numbers, some now believe e-cigarettes can cause lipoid pneumonia.
As we know, smoking carries a hugely increased risk of an.....
“When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but with creatures bristling with prejudice and motivated by pride and vanity.”
- Dale Carnegie
Why, you might wonder, do people continue to oppose electronic cigarettes when there is so much evidence proving they can help smokers?
Surely someone surveying the evidence would judge e-cigarettes to lead to more good.....
Imagine you’re looking for a reason to ban vaping in public places. No, really, put yourself in the shoes of somebody in that position.
The best approach is clear.
With an air of confidence, you say, “Vapers expose non-users to harmful chemicals and nicotine,” (taking care to say “chemicals” like it’s a dirty word).
But, just as you’re patting yourself on the.....
What a shame the UK E-Cigarette All Party Parliamentary Group didn’t write the EU Tobacco Products Directive.
I attended a meeting of the group yesterday and there was not a single person who thought the TPD was good legislation, while the value of e-cigarettes was clearly recognised by everyone in the room.
While the EU legislation on e-cigs is a badly written.....
Shocking news today, courtesy of Kirsty Williams of the Welsh Liberal democrats. The following is her email (posted with permission), along with a link to the petition they are holding against the ban.
Please take the moment to sign and share the petition. It takes seconds, and if enough of us sign it it could help save vaping in Wales......

Anyone who’s been following the battle over vaping will, by now, be very familiar with a lot of the myths being circulated by our opponents in the public health industry:
Formaldehyde! Gateway effect! Think of the children!
You know the sort of thing I mean; it’s in every hysterical UCSF press release, every shoddy Daily Mail article and every.....
There’s no doubt it [The Electronic Cigarette] can save many lives and hundreds of millions of pounds.

When Spain banned e-cigs in public places, e-cig sales dropped 70%.
Because of this law and the message it sends, thousands of Spanish people still smoke the cigarettes that are estimated to kill around one in two of all smokers.
Perhaps.....
Update: Welsh Health Minister Drakeford has just released 'evidence' in favour of a ban.
The letter ignores the massive body of positive e-cig evidence, the opinions of the Welsh public who were opposed to e-cigs in a public consultation and the many public health bodies mentioned below who oppose an e-cig ban.
This post is more relevant - so please keep.....
