What is a shortfill?
Shortfills are larger bottles of nicotine-free vape juice. Usually found in 50ml and 100ml quantities, they come with space left in the bottle for nicotine shots to be added (hence ‘shortfill’). For example, a 50ml option will come in a 60ml bottle, while a 100ml shortfill will usually come in a 120ml bottle.
What are the benefits of using shortfills?
- They are more environmentally friendly. The larger packaging they come in means less plastic is used per ml of e-liquid, resulting in reduced waste.
- They are more budget-friendly compared to buying multiple 10ml bottles.
- They give you more control over nic strength as you can mix your nic shots to your exact strength preferences.
What vape devices can you use shortfills with?
Shortfills usually have a high VG formulation (usually 70:30 or above), which makes them best suited to higher-powered vape devices and low-resistance coils. See more about VG:PG ratios in our guide.
How do I add nicotine to my shortfill?
To add nicotine to your shortfill, simply take the stopper off the bottle and add the nic shot through the hole. You then replace the stopper and shake the bottle to ensure the nic shot is mixed in.
How much nicotine do I need to add to my shortfill?
The amount of nicotine you need to add depends on the strength of your nicotine shot, the nicotine strength you are aiming for and the size of your shortfill bottle. As nic shots come in 10ml bottles, you will usually require 1 shot for a 50ml shortfill and 2 shots for a 100ml bottle.
The table below has some examples on how to create different strengths using 1.8mg/1.8% nic shots.
50ml | 100ml | |
Half a 1.8% nic shot | 1.6mg/ml | 1.1mg/ml |
1 x 1.8% nic shot | 3mg/ml | 2mg/ml |
2 x 1.8% nic shot | 4.2mg/ml | 2.8mg/ml |
Can I vape a shortfill without adding nicotine?
Yes, you can vape a shortfill juice on its own without adding nic shots.
What are the most popular shortfill flavour categories?
Shortfills come in a variety of flavour categories, but some of the most popular ones include fruity, menthol, dessert, tobacco, and beverage-inspired blends.
Do shortfills expire?
Shortfills have a shelf life of approximately two years from the date of manufacture, although the flavour and quality may diminish over time. Be sure to check the expiration date on the bottle before using.
Are shortfills vegan-friendly?
The ingredients used in shortfills vary depending on the brand and flavour, but most shortfills are vegan-friendly. However, it's always best to check the label or contact the manufacturer to confirm.
